First Look: Mercedes X-Class Pickup Concept

October 25th, 2016 by

At a release event today in Stockholm, Mercedes gave us a first look at their X-Class Pickup Concept – two “nearly-production-ready” vehicles which will expand the brand’s global lineup. Though these trucks won’t initially be for sale in the United States, their appeal in both “Powerful Explorer” and “Stylish Adventurer” forms is representative of our brand’s commitment to forward-thinking innovation.

MB X Class

Set to debut in late 2017 for Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe, the X-Class truck is designed to head off-road on the weekends and back to the office on Monday. Its 4MATIC® all-wheel drive system pairs with an available six-cylinder turbodiesel engine to tow up to 7,000 pounds and carry up to 2,200 lbs of payload. These are pretty impressive numbers that best the Hemi-equipped Ram 1500 4X4’s payload rating by some 700 lbs (1,490 lbs vs. 2,200 lbs).

Furthering Mercedes’ rugged ambitions, the X-Class will feature a solid rear axle with five-link suspension, transfer case with low-range gearing, and locking front and rear differentials. Despite their mechanical similarities, both trucks – the Powerful Explorer and Stylish Adventurer – maintain a unique respective design language. While the Powerful Explorer focuses on luxury amenities such as Nappa leather and open-pore smoked oak trim, the Rugged Adventurer features an easy-to-clean interior with seats supportive enough to bolster occupants during even the most extreme off-road excursions.

It’d be the ultimate Utah getaway car, holding enough gear to keep you and your family ready for all kinds of mountain adventures. Maybe it’s time we wrote Mercedes-Benz and begged for them to bring this innovative and capable rig stateside. I think we’d all agree that something like an X63 AMG® would be a seriously capable beast!

But until that happens, Mercedes of Farmington is here to make your current GLA, GLC, GLE, GLS, GLK, ML, or GL as all-road-ready as we can. Contact our service department today to check out our huge compliment of genuine Mercedes-Benz accessories, and remember that all of our tires – even the knobby off-road ones – are sold at 5% over cost, every day.
